Overwhelmed by the thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi thanked the people of India for creating history by giving a decisive mandate to a single party to form a non-Congress Government at the Centre.“In the history of independent India, mostly we have seen Congress-ruled or Congress-supported governments. But this is for the first time that a pure single party and non-Congress Government has been elected,” Modi said in his first public speech at Vadodara after the results on Friday evening.

Desh ki janata ne aaj triple century lagai hai ” (The people of this country have hit a triple ton with NDA winning over 300 seats). In his address, Modi said the government that NDA will lead in New Delhi would be a government representing all the people and not a partisan government. “ Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas would be the DNA of our work culture,” he said speaking at the jam-packed square of Khanderao market.

Record margin

Modi pointed to two key aspects of his victory from Vadodara as well as from Varanasi. “I had devoted hardly 50 minutes to Vadodara after I filed my nomination from here. And you voted me with margin of over 5.7 lakh. Secondly, at Varanasi, where for the first time a candidate was denied interaction with people of his own constituency, this is the result.” He also promised to take on board the Opposition to run the government and in the larger interest of running the country.

“No body in the Opposition or in the media can doubt my extent of hardwork. I assure you that in the coming 60 months, we will work harder. You would never have seen a labourer ( mazdoor ) like me before,” he said amid chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ by the crowd comprising youth, women, children and elderly.
