Tamil Nadu CM directs releasing of water for irrigation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today directed releasing of water from different reservoirs, benefiting irrigation of over 1.40 lakh acres of land in three districts of the state.

Following representation from farmers, water will be released from Thirumurthy Dam in Tirupur district, which will benefit 96,854 acres of land there besides the neighbouring Coimbatore, she said.

Water will be released from August 28.

Similary, she had directed release of water from Veeranam tank in Cuddalore for Samba crop cultivation, which will cover 44,856 acres of land in that district, she said in a statement.
