The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government, which announced it would waive farm loans, has allotted Rs 4,250 crore for the purpose in the financial year 2015-16.

The new Government had released a similar amount last year as part of the commitment it made to waive debts to the tune of Rs 19,000 crore. The Government said it would repay the debt in phases.

“With this (allocation), we expect the farmers to get fresh loans from institutional sources,” the Finance Minister, E Rajender said, while presenting the Budget in the State Assembly on Wednesday.

In all, the agriculture and allied sectors have got allocations of Rs 8,432 crore in the Budget. The Government allocated Rs 250 crore for the development of greenhouse farming. “We will provide a subsidy of 75 per cent on infrastructure costs when farmers set up greenhouses,” the Minister said.

E-auction

The Government has decided to introduce e-auction of agricultural produce at 12 market yards. “Based on the panel on Agriculture Marketing Reforms, we have introduced the system in Warangal, Khammam and Nizamabad markets. We would like to extend the system to 12 more major marketing yards in the State,” the Finance Minister said.
