The Tamil Nadu government will come out with a new granite mining policy and will sell beach minerals directly to augment resources, Governor K Rosaiah told the opening session of the 15th Assembly today.
In his customary address, the Governor said the move is in line with the election manifesto (of the ruling AIADMK).
Over the next five years, the government hopes to add 13,000 MW of additional power generation capacity and 3,000 MW of solar power. Ongoing power projects will be expedited, he said.
In the address which emphasised the State government’s focus on social and industrial development, the Governor said Tamil Nadu will nurture start-ups and encourage budding entrepreneurs, channel funds under the New Entrepreneur cum Enterprise Development (NEEDS) Scheme.
Focus on housing Housing will receive a boost with a mission mode approach to construct houses with the objective of creating create slum free cities and hut-free villages.
It will implement the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act in its true spirit and continue with the schemes that support education.
The State government expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s interim order that admission to medical colleges will only be through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. The government wants the continuation of the fair and transparent policy adopted by it and will seek the support of the Centre to enact a necessary legislation to permanently exempt Tamil Nadu from the national eligibility test, the Governor said.
