Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday said his government would work towards making the State free from illegal migrants from across the border and also clamp down on corruption.
“It is our commitment to make Assam foreigner-free and corruption-free in coming days. We are determined that we will succeed,” he said, addressing the people after taking oath.
“Assamese, Punjabi, Marwari, Bengali and all other people living in Assam will work together and establish it as a strong and developed State. We will work to strengthen the economic prospects of the State,” he said.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, who were present at the programme, for their guidance and support during the Assembly polls, he said his government will work with all tribes of the state and strengthen the ties of brotherhood between them.
Referring to Narendra Modi’s two years in office at the Centre, Sonowal who was Union Sports Minister, said India has progressed on many fronts during the period.
