Madhya Pradesh Police has busted an IPL betting syndicate and arrested four persons, including its kingpin, and recovered over Rs six lakh cash and betting slips from them.

On Friday night, police busted the betting racket in Ujjain and arrested four persons who they suspect were wagering on the direction of their “bosses” based in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Acting on a tip-off, a special police squad raided two places in the town and arrested four bookies while they were allegedly accepting bets during the qualifier IPL match played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, SP Rudolf Alvares told PTI today.

Those arrested have been identified as Harish Parwani alias Harish Pilot, the kingpin of the betting syndicate, Avik Goyal, Saurabh Soni and Nakul Sarraf, he said.

Rs 6,13,950 cash, betting slips to the tune of Rs 30 lakh, two laptops, 19 cell phones, two television sets and other betting-related material were recovered from their possession, the SP said.

“The cyber cell of police is investigating the various call details of these betting operators and police will soon disclose more about their links,” he said.

Pilot had also gone to Dubai recently and police are investigating his foreign links in this connection, the SP said.

A case has been registered against the accused, Alvares said.

Pilot, operating in Malwa-Mewad region, had his alleged betting network spread in various cities of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, police said.
