Those interested in visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra will now be able to book a ticket online, the Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Mahesh Sharma, said on Friday.
The facility, where one can book tickets 90 days in advance, is currently on a pilot basis, and is also applicable for Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi. There are three categories of tickets for visitors — foreign visitor, SAARC visitor and domestic visitor and one can pay via debit card, credit card or through net banking.
The Minister was speaking at an event to mark Good Governance Day by the Ministry of Tourism.
“Today we are relaunching Indian tourism. With the advent of technology, if we are unable to market India as a tourism destination, we will lag behind,” he said.
The Ministry also released a Braille book on Delhi’s monuments. It has also tied up with the Street vendors Association of India to train vendors in capacity building. The Ministry has already trained over 400 vendors, an official said.
Incredible India toll free helpline number was also launched at the occasion. “The facility currently is available in two languages and across 6 lines, and going forward more language and lines will be added,” Sharma said.
