Sony has sold more than 2 million Playstation 4 units since the $400 video game consoles went on sale on November 15, the company said on Tuesday.

The device sold more than 1 million units on its debut weekend in the US, and since expanding to 32 countries has racked up another 1.1 million sales, said Andrew House, President and Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment.

“The PS4 journey has just begun,” House wrote on the Sony blog, promising to introduce “valuable new features and services” to the PS4 in the months ahead.

The sales record represents a distinct improvement over its predecessor which took four months to reach the 1 million sales mark when it debuted in 2007.

The device’s main rival, Microsoft’s $500 Xbox One is also selling like hot cakes. That device launched on November 22 and broke the 1 million sales barrier on the day it launched.
