Russia has given fugitive US whistleblower Edward Snowden temporary asylum for one year, his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said Thursday.

Snowden was taken from the transit zone of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport to a secret location, his Russian lawyer said.

“He is one of the world’s most-sought persons,” Kucherena told the Interfax news agency.

Earlier, Interfax quoted an airport source as saying, “Today Edward Snowden crossed the Russian border and now he is on our territory.”
