With Jagdish Shettar set to become the next chief minister of Karnataka, former chief minister, B S Yeddyurappa, will be pleased. After all he was the one who got the chief minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda, his post. Now, another of his candidates, Shettar will become the new chief minister.

Where does that leave Yeddyurappa? Insiders say that he will not rest until he gets back to power. Does that mean Shettar should start counting his days? May be he should turn to Gowda for advice.

Passing phase

Not long ago, Hyderabad was among the top cities in the list of favourite destination for investors, both domestic and international.

Now, the city is fast turning into a destination for investigations, what with the CBI, IT, ED, CID, SFIO and a growing list of agencies swooping down in an ever increasing number of corruption cases.

Definitely the city of nawabs and IT has a lot more to offer and this is just a passing phase, says a typical Hyderabadi.

Taking a toll

Even before Maharashtra Navnirman Sena started an agitation against toll collection on the highways, the Warkari sect had launched protests against toll booths across the state.

Warkaris have given a deadline of July 15 to the State Government to close down the three booths among the many in the State.

However, political parties are trying to woo the various sub-sects within the Warkaris. It is now only a matter of time before the whole movement gets politicised.

Under fire

West Bengal’s fire and emergency services minister, Jawed Ahmed Khan, was left red-faced at the recently concluded Legislative Assembly session.

The minister — a first timer — was unable to reply to questions raised by Opposition members as he could not find the relevant portions in the replies provided by his department.

As Opposition members bayed for his blood, two of his Cabinet colleagues had to take the pains to go through replies and point out the relevant answers that were being sought.
