Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have achieved 19.12 per cent growth in total business during the second quarter of the current fiscal.

J.S. Shenoy, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank (lead bank of the district), informed this at the district-level meeting held here on Thursday to review the performance of banks in Dakshina Kannada district.

He said that the banks registered a business of Rs 34,219.63 crore in the second quarter of 2012-13 against Rs 28,727.19 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Deposits stood at Rs 22,992.67 crore (Rs 18,782.29 crore) and advances at Rs 11,226.96 crore (Rs 9,944.90 crore).

Credit-deposit ratio

However, he expressed concern over the decline in credit-deposit (CD) ratio from 53 per cent in the second quarter of 2011-12 to 48.33 per cent in the second quarter of 2012-13.

Terming the decline in CD ratio as a worrisome factor, Vijayakumar A., RBI representative at the meeting, said that banks in the district have not achieved the RBI-prescribed ratio of 60 per cent.

Banks with less than 60 per cent of CD ratio were advised to accelerate lending as per the plan of action prepared by them to achieve the stipulated level.

He said that the disbursement needs to be improved under agriculture sector and also under the tertiary sector that includes housing and education.

Credit disbursement

Giving details of implementation to various sectors under the district credit plan, Amarnath Hegde, Lead District Chief Manager, said that credit disbursement of Rs 2,385.99 crore has taken place in the district during the second quarter against the target of Rs 2,450 crore.

The achievement was 94 per cent under the farm sector, and 90.5 per cent under the micro and small enterprises sector.

K.N. Vijayaprakash, Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, presided over the meeting.
