Banks in Dakshina Kannada district achieve Rs 37,132-cr biz last fiscal

Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have earned a total business of over Rs 37,000 crore during 2012-13.

Speaking at the Dakshina Kannada district-level review committee meeting of bankers in Mangalore on Thursday, J.S. Shenoy, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said that 521 branches of various banks in the district achieved Rs 37,132.05 crore business during 2012-13 against Rs 32,342.95 crore in 2011-12. (Syndicate Bank is the Lead Bank in Dakshina Kannada district).

Deposits stood at Rs 23,729.24 crore (Rs 21,268.80 crore) and advances at Rs 13,402.81 crore (Rs 11,074.15 crore) during the period.

Advances, deposits growth

Shenoy said that the advances growth of private sector banks in the district was 45 per cent during the year. Corporation Bank’s growth in advances was 57 per cent. This was the highest growth in advances among commercial banks in the district.

The deposit growth of Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (a regional rural bank sponsored by Syndicate Bank) was 48 per cent. Congratulating the bank for this achievement, he urged the public sector banks in the district to take note of this.

Credit-deposit ratio

The CD (credit-deposit) ratio of the district increased to 56.48 per cent during 2012-13 against 53.50 per cent in 2011-12. Shenoy suggested that credit off take needs improvement to achieve a sustained CD ratio of at least 60 per cent.

He complimented the rural and semi-urban branches of various banks for recording a good growth in CD ratio during 2012-13.

The CD ratio of rural branches stood at 73.12 per cent (58.30 per cent) and semi-urban branches at 65.39 per cent (58.70 per cent) during the fiscal. However, the CD ratio of urban branches recorded a flat growth from 51.60 per cent in 2011-12 to 51.63 per cent during 2012-13.

Of the 521 branches in the district, 194 are situated in rural areas, 111 in semi-urban centres and 216 in urban centres.
