AkzoNobel commissions new unit

AkzoNobel India on Friday said that it has commissioned a new coatings producing facility for metal and flexible packaging industry at Thane in Maharashtra. The €1.8 million (Rs 14.5 crore) unit would serve markets in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.

It has a capacity of 5,000 tonnes a year and is set to produce a broad range of products, including specialised coatings for food and beer cans, internal and external coatings for caps and closures, and water-borne external coatings for beverage cans.

The new production facility will also be capable of producing various functional and barrier coatings for the flexible packaging industry.
