FICCI Secretary General, Dr Rajiv Kumar, said the I&B Ministry's latest action on piracy will help youth respect Intellectual Property.

At the industry body's behest, the Ministry has issued notices to multiplex owners asking them to screen anti-piracy clips to educate consumers about the ill effects of piracy.

The clips have been prepared by FICCI.

According to the India Entertainment Media Outlook 2011, the loss to the entertainment industry from piracy is to the tune of Rs 5.2 billion.

During a recent conference held by FICCI-IPR Division in Mumbai, it was highlighted that the major source of piracy is often multiplexes, where unscrupulous elements use camcorders to record films while these are being shown. Later such films find their way on internet and flood the market through pirated CDs. The industry body pointed out how it's not just the film producers who suffer losses, but also the Government since taxes slip out of its net.
