Nitta Gelatin India Ltd (NGIL), formerly Kerala Chemicals and Proteins Ltd, a joint venture between KSIDC and Nitta Gelatin Incorporated, Japan, has bagged Capexil’s top export award for 2010-2011.

The award was in recognition of NGIL’s export achievement in respect of ossein and gelatine panel. The award was given by Mr Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, to Mr G. Suseelan, Managing Director, Nitta Gelatin India Ltd (NGIL) in New Delhi.

NGIL has five manufacturing facilities in Kakkanad, Koratty, Baroda, Nagpur and Aroor. NGIL started its first plant in Koratty in Thrissur district, in 1979. NGIL is perhaps one of the few government-promoted companies in India to foray into consumer marketing by launching OTC products. This shift of strategy from B2B to B2C has given NGIL a thorough understanding of the dynamics of marketing and consumer perception and behaviour.

The company’s track record and ethical operations have made everyone understand that NGIL is a company to be reckoned with. Every year, NGIL brings in valuable foreign exchange which now exceeds Rs 100 crore.

NGIL hopes to close the fiscal of 2011-12 with a turnover of around Rs 250 crore. On the CSR front, NGIL has initiated many activities to engage the local population and help the community in and around Koratty plant at Thrissur and Kakkanad in Ernakulam, a release said.
