If you are floored by Pakistani cottons and laces, here is some good news. Lahore-based lifestyle company Sefam is tailoring plans to mark its presence on Indian soil.

As India and Pakistan look to enhance bilateral ties, companies from across the border - especially in the apparel space - are hoping to make inroads into the Indian apparel market.

Sefam is keen to roll out its popular brand Bareeze. “We want to be here like all other international brands. We are scouting for franchise partners who will help us establish the brand in the Indian market,” Mr Zain Aziz, International Business Head, Sefam told

Business Line.

The ‘aspirational' brand is one among 100 odd top Pakistani brands exhibiting their wares at the first-ever ‘Lifestyle Pakistan' exhibition here. The exhibition being held at Pragati Maidan has participants showcasing fashion textiles, jewellery, designer furniture and leather products among other stuff.

Speaking on its expansion, Mr Aziz said that Sefam is looking to roll out about 50 odd stores in the next 18-24 months, “We have hired a consultant who will help us identify the retail partner. Talks are on and we hope to close a deal soon,” he added.

Sefam has about 450 stores in Pakistan and the garments are priced Rs 5,000 upwards. The company retails garments, women's work-wear and kids-wear.

The company said in India it is looking at both high street and malls. “For us, the ideal store size will be around 1800 sq feet. We will be starting with mono brand boutiques,” Mr Aziz said.

Asked if the company would source from India, Mr Aziz said Sefam may look at sourcing some products from India.

Bilateral trade between India and Pakistan stands at $2.8 billion, although the informal trade, mainly via countries like Dubai and Singapore, is estimated to be $10 billion. This is the first collaborative exhibition of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
