Lower supplies to BSES, which is promoted by the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, is affecting the electricity services in Delhi, leading to load shedding

Electricity supplier to the national capital, BSES, has alleged that PowerGrid Corporation of India is not restoring nearly 300 MW of supplies even after pending dues were cleared.

Lower supplies to BSES, which is promoted by the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, is affecting the electricity services in Delhi, leading to load shedding.

Last month, PowerGrid issued a notice to the private electricity distribution company asking to clear pending dues of nearly Rs 80 crore and furnish letter of credits. However, officials at the utility claim that there were no outstanding because there is a time gap of 60 days between the bill generation date and payment due date.

On March 5, Gopal K Saxena, Chief Executive Officer of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, wrote to R N Nayak, Chairman and Managing Director, PowerGrid, saying the regulation is ‘unjustified and significantly reduced availability of power.’

“I also refer to the recent discussions between BRPL and PowerGrid, where it was agreed that ...PowerGrid would lift the regulation of power on BRPL providing an Letter of Credit of requisite amount and making a payment of Rs 3 crore, towards the purported outstandings…It is therefore, extremely surprising that the said regulation is still continuing without any communication from PowerGrid regarding the reasons for not upholding their part of the agreement,” Saxena said in his letter to PowerGrid Chairman.

Attempts made by Business Line to reach PowerGrid Chairman met with no luck.

Electricity in the national capital is supplied by three distribution companies — BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power-promoted North Delhi Power Ltd.
