The Sahaganj plant of Dunlop India Ltd was re-opened on Thursday following a tripartite agreement between the company management, its workers’ unions and the Labour Department of the State Government.
Apart from Pawan Ruia, Chairman, Ruia Group; State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and Labour Minister Malay Ghatak were present at the re-opening.
According to a release issued by the company, a primary assessment of the present condition of the plant makes resumption of operations a challenging task.
“However every effort will be taken to resume production early. It will start with the industrial product, followed by OTR (off-the-road) and other tyres,” the release maintained.
A committee comprising of representatives of West Bengal government, the workers’ unions and Dunlop’s management has been formed to work out productivity norms.
