Mumbai-based health club fitness chain Talwalkars has entered into a partnership with David Lloyd Leisure Ltd (DLL) of the UK to launch leisure and sports clubs in India.

DLL is Europe’s leading premium sports, health and leisure group.

Float new company

A new joint venture company will be floated under the name of Talwalkars David Lloyd Leisure Consulting to provide consulting for leisure and sports clubs in high-end residential developments, gated community townships and corporate campuses.

Prashant Talwalkar, Managing Director & CEO of Talwalkars Better Value Fitness, said: “We are likely to forge a 50:50 joint venture company and the business would be based in areas like consultation, construction and management of the leisure and sports clubs.’’

Investments

Each of these health and leisure clubs is expected to attract an investment of Rs 15-20 crore, excluding the cost of the land.

“Since real estate is expensive in a place like Mumbai, we would start the clubs in places like Thane, Pune, Jaipur and Kolkata,’’ added Talwalkar, without specifying the number of clubs it is expected to launch.

The David Lloyd Leisure Group operates 81 clubs in the UK and another 10 clubs across Europe.

It has over 440,000 members and employs 6,000 people.

This includes a team of over 1,800 health and fitness experts, while it contracts the services of more than 400 tennis professionals

“David Lloyd Leisure has 30 years’ of expertise and strategic knowledge on costs, implementation and execution of such clubs.

“The very same insights and know-how will now be available in the Indian market to ensure the launch of such projects,’’ added Talwalkar.
