The sale of superbikes in the 500cc plus category has been undeterred by the market slowdown considering its growth rate in the last few years, according to Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India. From 440 units in 2009-10, the figure has now touched 2,500 units in March 2014. It is going up substantially and is likely to double in the next couple of years, he told Business Line on the sidelines of an event. He attributed the jump in sales to economic growth, better infrastructure and more options in the super premium bike category. Sumbly inaugurated the third dealership of the iconic British motorcycle brand Triumph at Syamadynamic Motorcycles in Kochi. With an ex-showroom price starting from ₹581,620, Triumph is targeting to sell 500 units in the first six months. The figure would touch 1,500 in the next two years.
