Speaking on the future of technology and business, Infosys Chairman Nandan M. Nilekani emphasised that legacy system modernisation and data architecture overhauls are now “unavoidable” as companies prepare for AI-driven operations during the company’s 44th Annual General Meeting.
“AI adoption is creating new uncertainties. Legacy system modernisation and data architecture overhauls, to ensure that all the firm’s data is consumable by AI, are becoming unavoidable. Companies need both AI foundries for innovation and AI factories for scaling,” Nilekani shared, addressing company shareholders.
Every type of global business requires to first adapt to rapidly changing business and technological disruption before advancing into an unfamiliar and uncertain future.
New opportunities
One of the defining opportunities is harnessing AI to drive the next generation of enterprises, and to reimagine the way we live and work to our benefit, he said. According to him, Infosys has been at the forefront of this transformation.
Nilekani noted that despite economic uncertainty unlike any in recent times, Infosys grew 4.2 per cent in constant currency (cc), delivering $19.2 billion in revenues. The operating margin for the year expanded 50 basis points to 21.1 per cent, as the company generated $4.1 billion in free cash flow, a record increase of 41.8 per cent over FY24. Alongside, large-deal TCV for FY25 had sustained momentum at $11.6 billion.
He added that through Infosys Topaz, the company combines AI’s transformative potential with a foundation of cloud and data infrastructure. Infosys’ AI agent library accelerates productivity across critical functions – from code generation and IT operations to bill-to-cash and quote-to-order workflows.
Nilekani highlighted that the IT giant also crafted specialised language models tailored to specific industries, IT operations and cybersecurity needs.
“This deep expertise, coupled with strategic industry alliances, enables us to deliver model development as a complete service offering. Cobalt cloud capabilities anchor our AI strategy, connecting seamlessly with top-tier public and private cloud providers, SaaS vendors and PaaS platforms. Our data mastery, spanning architecture design and comprehensive structured/unstructured data management, empowers clients to confidently deploy enterprise-grade AI solutions,” he said.
