German luxury car manufacturer Audi’s Indian subsidiary may soon appoint Joe King as its head. King will replace Michael Perschke whose tenure is ending this month.

King was appointed as Brand Director, Audi India, earlier this month. Prior to this, he was serving as Dealer Principal, Audi Centre Sydney, since September 2009, a source close to the development told Business Line . Perschke would move back to the headquarters in Ingolstadt (Germany) where he would be heading Global Sales Strategy, the source said.

Joined in July 2010, Perschke is one of the leaders who brought the company to its numero uno position in Indian luxury cars market, selling 9,003 units last year compared with 5,511 cars in 2011.

The company under his leadership has beaten two other German luxury cars makers Mercedes and BMW with new launches and attractive pricing as per the Indian customers. Audi Q3 S Edition on the day of its launch set a new benchmark in the industry by receiving 125 online bookings. Meanwhile, Audi India on Monday launched new sports utility vehicle Q3 S Edition, priced at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which will be available from the end of this month.

It features the 2 TDI four-cylinder engine that combines direct injection with turbo charging, the company said. It would deliver fuel efficiency of 17.32 kmpl, the company said.
