In the wake of various controversies surrounding the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has proposed to restructure the IPL governing council by nominating three independent members, who are experts in technical and financial matters.

The BCCI will also float tenders and invite bids for two new teams to replace Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League for 2016 and 2017. The BCCI Board, which met in Mumbai on Sunday, said that it will be fully implementing the Justice RM Lodha committee interim report under which the two franchisee teams — CSK & RR — remain suspended for two years.

Sources close to the development indicated that the move is aimed at building BCCI’s credibility in the wake of various controversies surrounding it.

In 2014, BCCI had named HDFC’s Deepak Parekh as a special advisor to its then interim president Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar had requested Parekh to come on board as an adviser for the seventh edition of the India Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket championship

In July this year, two IPL franchises, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), were barred from playing in the tournament for two years by a Supreme Court-appointed panel after they were found guilty in an illegal betting and match-fixing probe.

It has also appointed Gokhale & Sathe as the internal auditors of the BCCI.
