Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has said that work at its Kharkhoda (Haryana) site is progressing and the first plant with an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units is expected to start operations in 2025.
Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will have a planned capacity of one million units per year, the company said. The company currently operates three manufacturing facilities: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur).
These facilities have a combined annual production capability of 2.35 million units. In anticipation of growing demand for automobiles in India and worldwide, the company plans to expand its annual production capacity to four million units, it said.
Additionally, MSIL is planning another greenfield facility with an annual capacity of one million units and is in the process of identifying a suitable location for the same, it added.
Two million vehicles
Meanwhile, the company on Tuesday achieved a production milestone of two million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time in its history. This makes Maruti Suzuki the only manufacturer in India to achieve this feat in the PV segement.
It also became the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global automobile manufacturing facilities to reach this landmark, the company said, adding that Ertiga was the two-millionth vehicle to be rolled out from the production line at the company’s manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana.
Of the two million vehicles, around 60 per cent were manufactured in Haryana and 40 per cent in Gujarat. Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR and Brezza were the top five manufactured vehicles during CY2024, it said.
