Team Deloitte emerged the winner, for the second time in a row, of the Delhi regional round of the 16th edition of the BusinessLine Cerebration Business Quiz. The team from Ashoka University was the runner-up
The quiz is presented by Union Bank of India and powered by BSNL.
Deloitte team members Rohan Khanna and Aditya Bagri took away a cash prize of ₹10,000. “The competition was quite tight compared to last year and the teams were also better prepared this time,” remarked Khanna, who had participated in the quiz last year as well.
Six teams had qualified for the second round, which included Deloitte, National Institute of Financial Management (Faridabad), EY, Power Systems Operations, Valve Research and Ashoka University.
Brain teasers
Among the interesting questions was: “Name the colloquial expression for a with-profits life insurance fund that is closed to new business, so called because it is neither fully arrived nor dead, making thousands of people finding themselves trapped, unable to get out because of stiff penalties. Answer: Zombie.
Another one was: The Intercontinental Exchange announced that it was forming a new company called ‘Bakkt’, which would only offer a federally regulated market for Bitcoins by making crypto currency safe for retirement funds and retail. So, which other company along with Microsoft is in partnership with Intercontinental Exchange for payment options? Answer: Starbucks.
The competition, hosted by quiz master Miraj C Vora, had questions in text, visual, audio and video formats.
MBA aspirants, B-school students, corporate executives and business professionals participated in it.
Grand finale
The regional rounds are being conducted in six cities — Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Kochi and Hyderabad.
The grand finale will take place on September 22 in Mumbai.
“The good part about the quiz was that it did not focus on just a few subjects, which made it quite varied,” said Siddharth Pancholi, a participant.
Another contestant, Akanksha Singh, a student who also participated last year, said: “The questions were interesting, however, it would have been better had we been given more hints.”
Touted to be the country’s toughest corporate quiz, Cerebration is managed by Woot Factors. Fortune International Institute of Business is the venue partner and Quizworks, the quizzing partner.
Mukesh Kumar Babbar, Assistant General Manager, Union Bank of India, and Vijay Pal, AGM, BSNL, gave away the prizes.
