The Dunlop India management on Tuesday has put up a a proposal for the phased re-opening of its Shahgunj unit at Hooghly, West Bengal. Re-opening and subsequent absorption of labourers will be carried out in three phases.
Following a tripartite meeting between the West Bengal government, trade union representatives and the Dunlop India management, it was proposed that 57 labourers will be absorbed by the management in the first phase, followed by 162 in the second phase and 222 in the final phase.
Management's assurance
Sources present in the meeting said trade union representatives had reportedly expressed reservations to the phased re-opening of the closed Shahgunj unit. According to them, a phase-wise induction of labourers was likely to jeopardise the interests of the others. However, the management has reportedly assured that the interests of all workers will be taken care of.
According to trade union sources, it has also been proposed that workers who are not absorbed during re-opening will either be relocated to different units or will be given VRS. A Dunlop spokesperson said that a written proposal on the re-opening of the unit and induction of workers will be submitted shortly.
