The agitating workers at Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) vacated factory premises on Saturday morning, following orders from the Haryana Government.

The workers were on sit-in protest since October 7 in solidarity with their colleagues at Maruti Suzuki India's (MSI) Manesar plant.

“We have decided to vacate the plant as per Government orders. We will continue with our protest outside the factory premises,” the Suzuki Powertrain India Employees Union President, Mr Sube Singh Yadav, said.

On Friday evening, the striking workers of MSI's Manesar plant, too, vacated the premises, following an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Close to 8,000 workers from Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd, Suzuki Castings and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd, and Maruti Suzuki Manesar plant have been agitating since October 7 demanding reinstatement of 1,200 casual workers and 44 permanent workers under suspension, after an agreement was signed on October 1, to end a 33-day stand-off.

MSIL has terminated and suspended 50 more workers after October 7. In addition, 18 workers from Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd were dismissed on Friday.

The Haryana Government on Thursday declared the strike by the workers at the three entities of Suzuki Motor Corp, illegal and initiated the process to cancel registrations of unions at SPIL and SMIPL.
