ReGen Powertech and Gamesa have also been eyeing different approaches to enter the solar space.

Suzlon is said to have won a 210 MW project in Telangana through a bid, marking the wind turbine major’s debut in the solar space.

However, sources in the know have said that while the financial bids have been opened, project awards are yet to be finalised. There is some work left before the winners are announced and to that extent there is some uncertainty, they said.

Suzlon had earlier said it would build solar plants, making use of its immense land banks and expertise in building renewable energy projects, but would not enter the energy sales business. It would develop the projects and sell them to energy companies, it had said.

If Suzlon is officially announced as the winner of the solar projects bid in Telangana, it would become the nation’s first wind energy firm to make a solar foray. the first

Others, such as Gamesa and ReGen Powertech, have been eyeing solar, but with different approaches in mind. Gamesa wants to build solar plants for third parties, while ReGen has just unveiled the prototype of a wind-solar hybrid product.

While ACME has said that it has won a 446 MW solar project in Telangana, other “winners” appear to prefer to wait for formal announcements.

According to sources, the other winners include Mytrah (325 MW), Skypower (200 MW), ReNew Power (150 MW) and Hero Future Energies (100 MW).
