General Motors India (GMI) has voluntarily recalled 1.14 lakh units of multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera to address emissions and specification issues.
The company is recalling BS3 (2.5L variant) and BS4 (2L variant) from model years 2005-2013 and the affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge across its 280 dealers.
GM India informed Indian government of an emissions issue involving the Tavera BS3 and an issue with the Tavera BS4 meeting certain specifications. GM India stopped production and sale of the Tavera BS3 on June 4 and the Tavera BS4 on July 2. These issues are not safety-related, the company said.
GM India has since identified a solution to the issues and performed the required engineering validation, and is awaiting regulatory approvals. After the proposed solution receives approval from authorities, GM India will resume Tavera production and sale, and move forward with its recall and customer notification plan for both the BS3 and BS4 models.
The company will notify customers how and when to bring in their vehicles for service, it added.
