IndiGo net up 24% in Sept quarter

Budget carrier IndiGo has reported a profit after tax of ₹139.84 crore for the quarter ended September 2016.

This is a 23.6 per cent increase compared to the PAT of ₹113.13 crore reported during the same period in the previous year.

In a statement to the BSE, the airline said that its total revenue stood at ₹4327.69 crore for the quarter ended September 2016, an increase of 18.9 per cent over the previous quarter. For the latest quarter, passenger revenues were ₹3597.88 crore or an increase of 18 per cent over the same period previously, while ancillary revenues showed an increase of 17.7 per cent at ₹558.41 crore during the quarter ended September 2016 compared to the previous quarter. The total expenses for the quarter ended September 2016 were ₹4151.14 crore (an increase of 19.3 per cent over the same period previously). “As a result Cost per Air Seat Kilometre (CASK) excluding fuel was ₹ 1.83, a decrease of 9.7 per cent despite the depreciation of the Rupee from ₹65.69 to the dollar to ₹66.61 to the dollar over this period,” the airline says in a statement. CASK is calculated by multiplying the number of seats on an aircraft by the distance travelled in kilometres by the aircraft.

IndiGo reported an Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) of ₹977.43 crore during the quarter ended September 2016, an increase of 11.7 per cent over the previous quarter.

Aditya Ghosh, President, said that the airline had reported a 32.7 per cent increase in traffic growth. “At the same time, our unit costs excluding fuel have reduced by 9.7 per cent despite operating in an inflationary environment,” the statement to the BSE quotes Ghosh as saying.

The airline reported a total cash balance of ₹6857.2 crore as on September 30 this year, which includes ₹ 2386.5 crore of free cash and ₹ 4470.7 crore of restricted cash, the statement adds.

“On September 30, 2016, the total debt was ₹ 742.8 crore. The entire debt for IndiGo is aircraft-related. IndiGo does not have any working capital debt,” the statement says.

The airline has a fleet of 118 Airbus A-320 aircraft. It expects a fleet of 136 aircraft at the end of the current fiscal year, the statement adds.
