“I am one of the oldest/senior most employees of Hyundai. I started off when the company started with Santro, then Accent, the i10, i20 and recently they said the cars have finished you haven’t…,” said actor and Hyundai’s Corporate Brand Ambassador Shah Rukh Khan.

He was promoting the company’s CSR initiative ‘Safe Move — Traffic Safety Campaign’ in association with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Traffic conditions

The actor who is from Delhi, recounted how he used to ride bicycles and motorcycles around Delhi roads, which have changed a lot in these years. “Time has changed. Children are mostly on smartphones or laptops, instead of outdoor activities. This is also because of the traffic conditions.”

Expanding role

The actor told

BusinessLine that knowledge on road safety is a must for the children as they are the future of the nation and they should learn about traffic rules at an earlier age.

He said as a brand ambassador, his role has expanded from just talking about the products.

“We (Hyundai and I) have been selling products for the last 20 years or so and doing well. Now it is the time to expand. A CSR issue by a car company about traffic makes sense. If it was for something else, it may be like you are just doing it,” he said.

When a car company is talking about safety, the question is “you are talking about safety, what are the safety features in your car...,” he said.

New strategy

The actor said that he was not promoting the traffic safety campaign in his capacity as a star, but as a parent who is concerned about road safety. “I want to see children on bikes again,” he said adding “It has to be a three-pronged strategy — we should have more corporates joining the bandwagon, better infrastructure, and educating the kids.”.

Asked which car in his garage was the safest, Khan said Hyundai Creta.
