Lanco Infratech Ltd today announced that the company has through its step-down subsidiary, Lanco Anpara Power Ltd, synchronised with the grid the 600-MW unit-I of the 1,200-MW thermal plant.
The 2x600-MW Anpara thermal plant was the first competitive bid project awarded under the Electricity Act. The second unit is s scheduled for commissioning before June 2011.
With the commissioning of the 600-MW unit and recent synchronisation of a 600-MW unit at Udipi, the second of the 1200-MW project coming up in Karnataka, the company has an installed capacity of 3,292 MW.
Lanco Infratech has now become the largest independent power producer in the country, the company claimed.
For the Anpara project, the Uttar Pradesh Government has tied up for the project's coal and water linkages and also commissioned a 765-KV transmission line for evacuation of power. Lanco has signed up power purchase agreements with the distribution companies of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board.
Anpara is pithead plant with coal mine 25 km from site. The transport linkage is through rail.
Mr L. Madhusudhan Rao, Chairman of Lanco Infratech, said in a statement: “This project is an example of working through ownership. With the synchronisation of 600 MW unit-I of Anpara power plant, in the last three years the company has grown the installed capacity from 500 MW to 3,292 MW.
“Our plan is to have an operating capacity of 15,000 MW by 2015.”
Lanco Infra shares ended the day's trade at Rs 36.40 (previous lose of Rs 35.75) on the BSE.
