Lladro to begin online sales in India by October

Spanish luxury manufacturer of handmade porcelain sculptures and lighting products, is gearing up to commission online sales in India by October coinciding with the festive season.

The family owned business based in Valencia has tied up with Spa Lifestyles and operates eight boutiques in India. Its products are sold through such boutiques but soon would be offered through online sales once the portal is launched.

“With the GST regime in place, Lladro is in a better position to offer its range of products, including gifting and lighting products, as it has removed the hassle of meeting the complex tax requirements of different States and logistics related issues,” Nikhil Lamba, Chief Executive Officer, Lladro, told

BusinessLine .

During an interaction at the Lladro's Hyderabad boutique, which is the first store to be launched in a new larger format, Lamba said Lladro started manufacturing of Hindu gods and goddesses and launched Ganesha in 2001, which was sold out within a year. This has been expanded to Shiva, Saraswati, Lakshmi among a host of others.

“We are launching a limited edition Lord Ganesha where only 1,800 pieces will be sold during the festive season, priced at Rs 4.5 lakh each, they are popular not only in India but among the NRI population in several countries,” he explained.

The company known for its handmade items designed by artistes, manufactures them at its unit in Valencia which are shipped for sale in other markets.

Its products are priced starting at Rs 4,000 and go up to Rs 1.65 crore, for 'Carnival of Venice.' Earlier, its highest priced product Queen of the Nile was sold for Rs 1.66 crore per piece.

Rosa Belenguer, an artist flown from Spain, was flown here to demonstrate how the paint work and decorations are done on these porcelain figurines. She says, “Perfection can only be achieved through experience, where precision is necessary.”
