In response to the petition filed by the IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) manufacturer Golden Vats Pvt Ltd regarding trademark violation by the Puducherry-based listed entity Ravikumar Distilleries Ltd, the Madras High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the latter from using the brand Golden Vat.

Delivering his order, Justice R. Sudhakar barred Ravikumar Distilleries from manufacturing, selling, offering for sale, stocking advertising directly or indirectly liquor products under the trade mark Golden Vat or any other trademark that is identical or deceptively similar to that of the applicant’s (Golden Vats Pvt Ltd) trademarks.

The Puducherry Government directed Ravikumar Distilleries not to manufacture the brand ‘Golden Vat VSOP Brandy’ and existing stock of the brand if any shall not be dispatched until further orders.
