Nestle India has moved the Bombay High Court seeking a review of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India order calling for the withdrawal of its Maggi noodles. The Swiss firm has sought a review of a similar order by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration.
A Division Bench of Justices VM Kanade and BP Colabawala posted the matter for hearing on Friday. In a statement to stock exchanges, Nestle said it was continuing to withdraw Maggi products. “This action (moving the court) will not interfere with this (withdrawal) process. We shall proceed further as per the orders that may be passed by the court,” it said.
It said it has raised issues pertaining to the interpretation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2011 in its appeal filed before the High Court. The details of the appeal were not available immediately.
US testing samples Bloomberg reports: Nestle SA said the US Food and Drug Administration is testing samples of imported Maggi noodles. The FDA is looking into the issue and it’s not clear right now if products in the US are affected by India’s recall, Jennifer Corbett Dooren, a spokeswoman for the regulator, said. Nestle doesn’t directly sell Maggi noodles in the US.
