Almost three months after the launch of the petrol Sunny entry mid-size sedan, Nissan is now looking to tap the growing diesel car demand with a diesel version of the car.

With bookings opening on Monday, the variant will be available in two trims - Rs 7.98 lakh (XL) and Rs 8.78 lakh (XV). The ex-showroom prices are the same throughout its 47 dealers across the country.

Built on the light-weight ‘V’ global platform, which also underpins the Micra small car, the Sunny Diesel sports the 1.5 litre K9K engine which delivers fuel efficiency of 21.64 kmpl and puts out 86 PS of max power. It is being manufactured at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant near Chennai.

Mr G.M. Singh, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Hover Automotive India, Nissan’s Marketing & Sales partner, said, “The fact that we are able to clock over 3,000 sales for the Petrol Sunny so far reinforces our belief that Indian customers prefer Nissan’s products which are filled with innovation and excitement.”

The new variant is available in six colours – Bronze Grey, Blade Silver, Storm White, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Brick Red – and is equipped with safety features such as Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Engine Immobiliser and Airbags. A rear spoiler has also been added to the curvy design for a sporty touch.
