The anti-cricket buff (ACB) is the odd ball in a nation of fanatics of the sport. Yet, this group has managed to come up with interesting ways to avoid being bowled over during the last and final match of the World Cup.
Being creative
So, while most of the nation will be glued in front of the television sets on Saturday, the ACBs are thinking of creative ways to counter the threat. From anti-cricket corners in offices to ‘I hate cricket' groups on social networking site Facebook, the ACB is putting up a brave front.
Mr Dayananda Yumlembam, a young scribe from Ahmedabad, is a bike enthusiast and on weekends takes off with a bunch of bikers for long drives on his Royal Enfield. This Saturday, when he got to know that the group was planning to go to Mount Abu, one of his favourite destinations, he was raring to join. But the minute he heard plans included watching the cricket match there, he immediately cancelled his trip. Instead, he plans to stay at home and clean his bike and tune its engine to compensate for the missed ride to Abu. He even has a noble cause attached to his reasoning, “By not watching cricket, I am contributing my part in reducing the corruption involved in it.”
Even as the Wankhede stadium brings a part of the globe to a standstill on Saturday, the ACBs are going to lie low and fume.
As Delhi-based art curator Mr Himanshu Verma says, it is difficult to escape the frenzy as there are screens put up everywhere and people in groups are generally having a nice time.
While media professional Ms Devparna Acharya from Chennai says, “See an insect has been named the same thing for a very good reason!”
