At a time when both jobs and talent have become scarce, premier business schools are offering their students to corporates at a premium.
Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB), compared to other B-schools, is charging more from recruiters who make offers to its students.
At ISB, the charges progressively come down from first day of interviews to the fifth day.
According to the fixed payment cost for the Class of 2013 mentioned in ISB’s portal, a company will have to pay Rs 3.30 lakh if more than two job offers are accepted by the students on the first and second days of interviews in the year. For up to two offers accepted, the charge is Rs 1.65 lakh.
On days three and four of the campus interviews, the charge will come down to Rs 2.20 lakh for more than two accepted job offers. After the fifth day to the end of the season, the recruiters will have to pay Rs 80,000.
According to ISB, the charge has been levied “in view of the escalating costs for providing placement facilities such as infrastructure and other services.
Each company hiring its candidates has been asked to pay up to Rs 3.30 lakh for more than two job offers. This could work out to be a big source of revenue for ISB given the fact that the current student strength is 767 (both Hyderabad and Mohali, Chandigarh).
Interestingly, the charges at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are comparatively lower.
“We charge a modest fee and sometimes don’t, depending on some parameters,” Debashis Chatterjee, Director, Indian Institute Management, Kozhikode, told Business Line .
Enquiries with IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Ahmedabad revealed that the maximum they charged was Rs 1 lakh, and there are many waivers for start-ups, innovation companies and reputed public sector companies.
