RIL to expand retail business

>RIL Chairman , Mukesh Ambani, has outlined his vision for taking forward the company's retail business by expansion of business in existing markets and exploring new markets.

"In the coming years, retail wil emerge as a major growth engine for our consumer business and for Reliance by creating significant societal value and by providing even greater choice and value to consumers and small enterprises," he said, while addressing the shareholders at the company's 40th AGM in Mumbai.

The company's retail business Reliance Retail has registered a 34 per cent growth to touch Rs 14,496 crore in 2013-14.

At its 40th annual general meeting, the company said that the business now operates 1,691 stores covering an area of 11.7 million square feet across 146 cities.

The company said during the year, 367 new stores were added.

The company claimed that it had established market leadership in all the focus areas of digital, lifestyle and value formats during this period. The wholesale retail vertical Reliance Market has about 1.2 million members.

Reliance Retail said that its new format Digital Express Mini, which was launched during the year, will be scaled up to over 900 cities in the county. The neighbourhood technology store for mobility and communication products, operates in a much smaller space.
