The Singapore Tourism Board is wooing India tourists with attractive offers, assuring a heightened leisure experience while airliners Singapore Airlines and Silk Air are seeking to expand connectivity to more cities.

Silk Air is set to add three more flights each week to Hyderabad from January 1, 2013, and is open to connectivity to new locations in India.

With the addition of three flights to Hyderabad from seven each week now, between Singapore Airlines and Silk Air, they will have 97 flights from 11 locations. In October, Visakhapatnam was added to the network.

“Travel from South India to Singapore continues to be high as travellers tend to visit and revisit Singapore to enjoy its evolving tourism offerings. With new attractions and the promise of a personalised experience, we will offer Singapore as the holiday you can take home with you,” G.B.Srithar, Area Director, South Asia, Singapore Tourism Board, said.

Addressing a press conference, he said tourism contributed $22.3 billion Singapore in 2011 with Indian tourists among the top five visitors. Last year 8.7 lakh tourists from India visited the city state and the first nine months shows that the number has increased.”

Gardens by The Bay, Marina Bay Cruise Centre and the soon-to-be-opened Marine Life Park at The Resorts World and River Safari, will be new attractions for visitors.

Jagadish Ram Bhojwani, Manager of Silkair based in Hyderabad, said efforts were on to seek more destinations in India, particularly some tier-ii cities that offer scope for international flights.

In 2011 Singapore had 13.2 million visitors, a growth of about 13 per cent over 2010, Srithar said.
