Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has commissioned unit two of 600 MW of the 2x600 MW (1,200 MW) coal-fired thermal power project coming up in Adilabad district of Telangana.

Significantly, the synchronisation of unit two of 600 MW, in the presence of N Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, coincides with two years of Telangana State formation to be held on June 2.

Soon, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was personally following up on the development of the project, is expected to dedicate the project to the new State.

With the synchronisation of the second unit serving as a major landmark for the project, the unit one of 600 MW, which was commissioned earlier this year, has begun generating power, contributing to the State Grid and partially bridging the demand-supply gap.

Sridhar said that later during the month the Chief Minister will dedicate the project. The trial run of the first unit was completed and the boiler light up, which is one of the major milestones in setting up of a power project, for the second unit, was completed.

After the Chief Minister assumed office in June 2014, the commissioning of the long pending SCCL power project was taken up on a priority. And, within 24 months thereafter, it has been completed and ready for generation.
