Swift, Ignis drive Maruti sales up 15% at 1,47,170 units

Compact segment sales stood at 68,885 units in March, up 13.5 per cent, compared with 60,699 units in March last year.

The country's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Sunday reported domestic sales of 1,47,170 units in March, up 15 per cent, compared with 1,27,695 units in the corresponding month last year.

The sales were driven mostly by the compact segment (like Swift, Ignis and Baleno), especially with the launch of the new Swift. Compact segment sales stood at 68,885 units in March, up 13.5 per cent, compared with 60,699 units in March last year.

The mini segment (Alto, WagonR) grew 21 per cent year-on-year to 37,511 units from 30,973 units. Similarly, the utility segment (like SCross, Vitara Brezza and Ertiga) sales grew 24 per cent to 22,764 units in March compared with 18,311 units in March 2017.

However, sales of its mid-size sedan Ciaz declined by 12 per cent year-on-year to 4,321 units during last month against 4,918 units in same month last year.

Overall, the company sold 12,34,571 units of passenger cars in the domestic market in April-March (2017-18), up 13 per cent, against 10,95,891 units during 2016-17. Overall passenger vehicle sales grew 14 per cent to 16,43,467 units during last fiscal compared with 14,43,641 units in the previous fiscal (2016-17).
