Women account for 16 per cent of corporate travellers: MakeMyTrip data

Data comes from flight bookings by 3,000 companies with more than 200 on their rolls

Women accounted for 15.8 per cent of corporate travellers in 2024, booking data from MakeMyTrip shows.

This is based on an analysis of all flight bookings made by nearly 3,000 corporates with more than 200 employees each and annual travel expenditure exceeding ₹1 crore, it said on Wednesday. The travel firm did not provide comparative data.

According to a Deloitte report last October, IT services, BFSI, engineering, oil & gas, pharma, auto and FMCG sectors topped corporate travel spends in India.

When it comes to women corporate travellers, education, media & entertainment and consulting sectors dominate and their share was 22-28 per cent of all bookings.

The share of women corporate flyers from manufacturing, chemicals, energy, textiles and pharmaceutical sector was around 10 per cent, MakeMyTrip said.

Among cities, Mumbai led all metros, with women making up nearly 19 per cent of its corporate flyers, followed by Delhi and Bengaluru. Women made up 11 per cent of corporate flyers in Chennai and Pune.

“By offering real-time insights and integrated travel solutions, we help enterprises make informed decisions that align with their workforce travel needs and policies.,” said Raj Rishi Singh, chief marketing officer (corporate), MakeMyTrip.

Strong economic outlook coupled with rise in corporate earnings is boosting business travel. Growth from meetings, conferences and events is driving hotel occupancies and average room rates.

According to the Global Business Travel Association, India is the fourth largest market in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, accounting for 6.2 per cent of business travel spending.

“We are observing significant growth coming from national markets and the SME segment, which has been a major driver of regional expansion. The meetings and events sector is also robust in India, clearly showing steady growth,” Bertrand Saillet, Managing Director of FCM Travel Asia said at a recent event.
