Zuari to set up cement grinding unit in Maharashtra

Zuari Cement, an Italcementi group company, to set up cement grinding unit at Auj (Aherwadi) and Shingadgaon villages in Solapur, Maharashtra.

The new unit will have a production capacity of one million tonnes a year and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2015. At present, Zuari Cement has a total cement manufacturing capacity of 6.2 million tonnes in India, which includes two manufacturing units at Sitapuram and Yerraguntla, along with a grinding centre at Chennai.

The company is developing a project of 3 mt a year plant in north Karnataka.

The Solapur unit is expected to cater to Zuari Cement’s market expansion plans in the southern and western parts of Maharashtra. The facility is also designed to double its capacity as part of the future plans to cater to the growing demand in Maharashtra. The ground-breaking ceremony was held on Wednesday attended by Nabil Francis, Managing Director, Zuari Cement; H.S. Ramesh, Director – Business Development, and S. Sundaram, Vice-President - Projects. The company has over 5 per cent market share in the South and sales of over €249 million in 2012.
