It is essential for the youth to have positive mindset and to have openness to new ideas to excel in life, according to Mr Ajai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank.

Speaking after inaugurating a national conference on ‘Developing global mindset: Preparing the youths to the challenges of the world', organised by the SDM Postgraduate Centre for Management Studies and Research in Mangalore on Monday, Mr Ajai Kumar said that the positive mindset is essential for facing challenges in life.

The negative attitude of the mind will not make a person ready to face the challenges.

Stressing the need to have openness to new ideas, he said sometimes even junior colleagues in an organisation come out with some brilliant ideas that help the organisation to reach new levels.

Hard work, which is essential part of facing challenges in life, is non-negotiable. Efforts put up by hard work should be encouraged, he said.

The speed at which a person does the work helps in his/her attitudes in tackling challenges in life.

All these factors will lead to better performance in a person's activities. It is essential to have three things — performance, initiative and exposure — to tackle responsibilities in life.

He advised the youth to be prepared for facing the challenges posed by major shifts taking place in today's world. The forces such as technology, globalisation, demography, society and energy resources are playing a major role in this shift, he said.

Energy resources

Highlighting the role of technology in this, Mr Ajai Kumar said technology helps in bringing efficiency, transparency and accuracy in work culture in society.

On the role of energy resources, he said energy efficiency is a key factor in the major shifts taking place in the world. With the energy resources becoming scarce, an efficient energy source well managed aids in the growth of any nation or society, he said.
