Keeping in tune with the demand of global mining equipment suppliers, India is looking to simplify the regulatory approval procedure and harmonising
rules and regulations for mine safety with international standards.
In a meeting held in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, three working groups were formed to look into different aspects of mining regulations followed by the Directorate-General of Mine Safety.
The working groups will explore possibilities to simplify the existing procedures in allowing foreign equipment to be used in Indian mines, ensure that the Indian safety standards are in line with the global best practices and, review safety regulations related to oil and gas exploration activities.
“Simplification of Indian standards was long overdue. The current rules and regulations do not encourage greater play of foreign suppliers, particularly in the underground mining sector,” says Amar Bhasin, Vice-President of Hindustan Global Resources, which markets Australian mining equipment in India.
