OECD plans economy survey of India

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will launch an economic survey of India in a big way in June this year. This was conveyed by the OECD Secretary-General, Mr Jose Angel Gurria, to the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, at the latter's office in North Block today.

During the meeting, Mr Mukherjee said that there was lot of scope for cooperation between India and OECD in the field of global tax reforms, sharing of information among different countries in cases of tax evasion and money laundering.

Above all, both can co-operate and work together on developmental issues which are vital in the present day scenario of world wide economic downturn. The Finance Minister also said that India can learn and take benefit from the best practices evolved by OECD in different sectors based on the collective experiences and tested practices of different countries.

Mr Gurria said that India and OECD can also cooperate in the field of education, energy, sustainability of growth and financial sectors among others.
