Tamil Nadu ministers on Friday assured members of the Tirupur garment associations to inform Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, about their grievances over closure of dyeing and bleaching units following a Madras High Court order. Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) President, Mr A Shaktivel, along with other delegates met Handlooms Textiles Minister, Mr K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Highways and Minor Ports Minister, Mr Vellakoil Swaminathan, and Environment Minister, Mr T.P.M. Mohideen in Chennai, sources said. Tirupur MLA, Mr C. Govindasamy, (DMK) also took part in the meeting, they said.

The delegates explained to the ministers the problems faced by the industry in the aftermath of the HC order, which on January 28 ordered the closure of all 754 dyeing and bleaching units in Tirupur for discharging effluents polluting the Noyyal river, on whose banks Tirupur is located. The delegation is scheduled to meet the ministers again on February 8, they said.
