Mr Pete Crear, President and CEO of World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) of the US, recently visited Madurai and held discussions with DHAN Foundation, a leading non-government organisation working to promote financial inclusion for enhancing the economic opportunities and for better life of the poor, here on Wednesday.
WOCCU is a not-for-profit leading trade association advancing credit union development worldwide engaged in promoting and building Credit Union systems that provide affordable alternative choices for the people who do not have access to formal banking systems.
Attracted by the self-help movement in the country, he visited the Foundation and Inafi India (a network of Alternative Financial Institution for micro finance) to look at and gain first hand experience of the self-help groups which also operates like Credit Unions for serving the members on not-for-profit basis.
