The Andhra Pradesh Government has increased input subsidy for various crops that were hit in the recent floods and cyclone. It estimated that the State suffered damages in an extent of 5 lakh hectares.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has made a statement in the Legislative Council today, increasing the input subsidy for paddy, groundnut, cotton, sugarcane, chilly, vegetables, onions, flowers, papaya and watermelon.
The subsidy has gone up from Rs 6,000 to 10,000 per hectare, up 67 per cent. The input subsidy was Rs 4,500 in December 2010. It was enhanced to Rs 6,000. The input subsidy for maize was increased to Rs 8,333 from Rs 5,000. For jowar, bajra, ragi, castor, sesamum, aloe vera, the subsidy increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,000. Pulses, sunflower, soyabean will get Rs 6,250 (Rs 3,750); horticulture nurseries from Rs 7,500 (Rs 4,500); mango, citrus, cashew nut, sapota, guava, pomegranate, Rs 15,000 (Rs 9,000); tobacco Rs 10,000 (Rs 6,000); and coriander Rs 7,500 (Rs 4,500.
